Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, have been calling their Mansion House at Bagshot Park in Surrey their home for over 20 years. The Wessexes have been living in the said state since they got married in 1999, along with their two children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn. Just like other members of the royal family, the couple likes to keep their house private, but their recent videos online seem to give a glimpse of how their home looks like.
When the royal family's social media accounts published a video of Sophie giving tips and resources to homeschooling children now that schools were closed, it was said to be taken in their own home. It showed a large bookcase at her back, filled with an array of DVDs, books, and games, giving everyone a hint of how they spend their time during the coronavirus lockdown in the United Kingdom.
In another clip for the Clap For Our Campaigners campaign, it showed Prince Edward, Sophie, together with Lady Louise and James standing in their garden as they gave a round of applause for the NHS frontliners who fight against the coronavirus outbreak. They were in front of glass doors with a plant growing, climbing up the brick wall in the background.
According to Hello! Magazine, the Grade-II listed building is set within 51 acres of land that gives the family a vast space to spend time outdoors during the lockdown. The place is only 11 miles away from Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's Windsor estate, where they are also self-isolating.
In a 2015 interview and photoshoot by Harpers Bazaar, Sophie gave a rare glimpse of her home with Prince Edward. Here, it could be seen that her house has several lavish designs, like a large, ornate wooden desk, a massive bouquet of flowers, and a glittering chandelier. It also showed that they love having wooden decors in their home as they have an enormous, wooden wall with carved images, Woman and Home noted.
Prince Arthur, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's son, previously lived at the Mansion House, until he died in 1942. The Royal Army Chaplain's Department then leased the house between 1947 and 1996 and used it as a Church House and Chaplains' Depot before it was renovated to be the home of Prince Edward and Sophie in 1998. Although the two don't necessarily have to pay rent, the Earl of Wessex, reportedly, extended the lease on their family home to 150 years for £5 million.
