While Donald Trump has appeared to be very occupied in dealing with addresses and briefing amid the COVID-19 crisis in the United States, his wife, Melania Trump is busy with engaging with other countries' First Ladies through the phone. It was reported that she recently called and phoned in the German First Lady, Elke Büdenbender to "discuss the response" and efforts of both countries toward the pandemic that has impacted more than 200 countries today.
According to the statement released by The White House, the two First Ladies discussed what both of the countries have been doing to fight the current crisis. It was also said that Melania Trump spoke with the German President's wife about some of the "disinformation that has emerged" amid the pandemic.
While the entirety of their conversation was not made available before the public, it was said that both of them are "committed" to encourage all Americans and Germans to become more "cautious," especially in this difficult and trying time. The US First Lady then, reportedly, "reassured" Elke Büdenbender that the country is with Germany, as well as with the rest of the European countries, in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per The Hill, the conversation between the US and German First Ladies were not the first engagement via phone that Melania Trump had with her counterpart in other countries. It was reported that she also called the First Ladies of Canada and France earlier last month.
It was said that Donald Trump's wife called Sophie Grégoire Trudeau in to learn about the Canadian President's wife's condition after recovering from COVID-19. She was also said to ensure the relationship between the United States and Canada amid the pandemic.
Alongside the concerns, Melania also, reportedly, said that the nation will stand with the Commonwealth country, just like what she shared with the French First Lady, Brigitte Macron of the French Republic. The White House also released a statement about these calls and revealed that Melania Trump deeply "expressed condolences" to the individuals who lost their lives due to the pandemic.
The United States has now become the epicenter of COVID-19. While the Trump administration was, reportedly, looking forward to reopening the country next month, the US has remained to be the most affected nation by the pandemic.
The confirmed cases have soared to 614,000 with over 26,000 deaths. In Canada, over 27,000 individuals have tested positive for the virus and 903 deaths were tallied.
Meanwhile, France has a total of 143,303 confirmed cases, with just a 10,000 difference from Germany. As for the number of deaths, there are over 15,729 and 3,495 cases, respectively.
