Prince William is the elder son of Prince Charles, who is the heir apparent to the British throne. The Duke of Cambridge is the second in the line of succession and there will be certain changes that people around him must follow when he becomes King.

In fact, even his wife Kate Middleton will have to obey one royal rule when Prince William is King of the United Kingdom and the other Commonwealth realms. Despite the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge being a modern royal couple, they are still expected to observe certain royal etiquette.

British sovereign is being bowed to by those who meet them, including the Royal Family members. Male royals would bow down their heads upon greeting the Queen or King while female royals do curtsy.

When Prince William becomes King, Kate Middleton will be the Queen Consort. But despite her new status, she will still have to do curtsy to her husband on the day of his coronation.

While Prince Philip rarely bowed to Queen Elizabeth in public, He had to kneel before her during Her Majesty’s coronation in 1953. This royal etiquette is expected of Kate Middleton as well.

However, Kate Middleton will not curtsy Prince William upon greeting him as Queen Consorts enjoy the rights and privileges of the sovereign King by law. In fact, Queen consorts Elizabeth and Mary never curtsied to their husbands George VI and George V.

Meanwhile, Prince William will possibly be stripped off from one of his titles when the time comes that Queen Elizabeth retires from her role and Prince Charles becomes King. The Duke of Cambridge received a series of titles when he married Kate Middleton in 2011 and got the auxiliary titles of Earl and Countess of Strathearn in Scotland and Baron and Baroness Carrickfergus in Northern Ireland. Her Majesty also appointed him to the position of Lord High Commissioner.

And as soon as his father ascends to the throne, Prince William is set to inherit more titles. And because of this, one title may be removed from him.

Prince William will also become the new Prince of Wales once Prince Charles becomes King. This is another title under the Duke of Cambridge’s belt. And since the Lord High Commissioner title is a one-year appointment, there is a high chance that the prince will temporarily step away from the role as he and Kate Middleton will take more engagements in the future.
