Prince Charles and Princess Diana's marriage was far from the fairytale-like stories that everyone had expected from the couple. At the start of their relationship, many fans and supporters were certain that they were a perfect match.

But, years after their wedding in 1981, their marriage caused several controversies around the British Royal Family. Quite obviously, this was something that the senior royals never expected, and even wanted in the first place.

As stated by royal experts and biographers, Prince Charles' family thought of the young Lady Diana Spencer as the most fitting female for the Heir Apparent. Aside from the fact that she came from an aristocratic family, she was also "virginal."

Several claims also noted that Princess Diana ensured to her then-boyfriend that she was the perfect fit for him. This was reportedly the reason why the Prince of Wales thought that everything would go well for them.

However, this was far from the case after being married to each other for several years. Apart from the claims that it was their affairs that broke their marriage, it was also said that Prince Charles' admiration for Sarah Ferguson had led them to "unmitigated disaster."

According to Express UK, royal expert and biographer, Andrew Morton shared in his materials that everyone in the Royal Family had loved Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. Her arrival to the Fold was even reportedly dubbed as the "Fergie Fever" because of her impact and effect on the British Royal Family.

While it was Princess Diana who became the bridge to their relationship as she introduced Sarah to Prince Andrew, the late Princess reportedly felt that her close friend and distant cousin "left" her "looking like dirt." As explained, Sarah Ferguson "wooed everybody" in the Royal Family and she "did it so well." But, what made it much more insulting was when Prince Charles allegedly told his wife that she should be more like the Duchess of York.

As per Cheat Sheet, this had caused Princess Diana to become very angry toward the Prince of Wales. However, considering that she was already "desperate" for his love, royal experts said that she still went on to follow her husband's "advice."

Despite acting like the person she was not just to "appease" Prince Charles, their marriage had reportedly remained "disastrous." In the end, the late Princess allegedly said that she "regretted" trying to become the person "like Fergie was."
