Following the massive success of "P.T." demo, it looked like "Silent Hills" would be the next biggest horror title ever produced. But Konami parted ways with Hideo Kojima and canceled the game, and the project never pushed through. While details about "Silent Hills," are scarce, a new leak recently surfaced revealing its frightening ARG mechanics.

The latest information about "Silent Hills" came from Rooster Tech's Alanah Pearce. For the source of information, the YouTuber cites a developer who worked with the project. According to the leak, the supposed horror title would have enabled players to avail special features that could haunt them even if they have already stopped playing the game.

The tipster revealed that these opt-in features include players receiving emails, text messages, and other similar stuff from "Silent Hills." Interestingly, this opt-in feature could extend to smart lights that cause players' lights at home to flicker randomly. In other words, players would experience real-life hauntings, a feat that could make "Silent Hills" one of the terrifying horror titles ever made.

Other "Silent Hills" features reportedly include utilizing the PlayStation 4 gaming console for more scares. The specific details related to this are not available, but it seems that the game would alter the dashboard of the gaming console in some manner. Moreover, the game would utilize players' saved files to terrify them.

It is worth noting that the tipster claimed she is not totally confident with her source. In other words, at this point, fans should take this information with a pinch of salt. Considering that the game is already canceled, the industry will never know if there is any grain of truth about this. But, it is possible that some of its gameplay mechanics could be used in future horror titles.

Earlier in 2020, rumors claimed that game director Hideo Kojima is working with Sony for an upcoming horror game, but information about this game is still scarce. Currently, there are whispers online that a reboot of "Silent Hill" is in the works, and would release as a PS5 exclusive title. The upcoming horror title has the same director as the original "Silent Hill" game.

There is a chance that the upcoming soft reboot of "Silent Hill" could share some of the in-game features of the canceled "Silent Hills." The PS5 exclusive title is reportedly launching at the PS5 official console reveal in Jun 2020. The horror title is allegedly in a playable state.
