Prince William was apparently the first member of the royal family to reach out to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle following the airing of their controversial documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, in October 2019.

In that interview, Prince Harry and Meghan revealed that they were struggling mentally with being in the royal spotlight, with Meghan openly admitting on television that she was not okay with the negative press around her. It was also in this documentary that Prince Harry said the trauma of his mother's death continues to haunt him, especially after seeing her wife go through the same struggles with the media.

The Duke of Sussex also admitted that he and his older brother have "good days and bad days" and are on a different path. The interview seemingly confirmed the speculations that Prince Harry and Prince William have been feuding.

According to a report from Daily Express, the Duke of Cambridge was the first royal family member to call up Prince Harry after that documentary aired on ITV. The first thing Prince William, reportedly, asked Prince Harry was, "How can we help you?"

In 2019, BBC reported that Prince William was worried for his brother following that interview. The Duke of Cambridge also extended hope that his brother and sister-in-law were all right after what they've just revealed to the public.

Shortly after the interview, Prince Harry and Meghan decided to spend the Christmas holidays away from the royal family, further sparking talks that the relationship of the brothers cannot be mended. Six weeks later, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they would like to step back from their royal duties.

It was a crisis that needed the intervention of Queen Elizabeth. After weeks of discussions with Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, Her Majesty relented to the couple's wishes to scale down from their royal work and start a new life and new jobs in America. However, her arrangement with the Sussexes is only up to 12 months and after that, the royals will once again decide on Prince Harry and Meghan's path.

The news comes as reports say Prince Harry and Prince William are now on speaking terms. According to a friend, Queen Elizabeth's grandsons are now in "regular communication" but they are not buddies like before. Apparently, the brothers were back in touch after Prince Charles had coronavirus in early April.
