Meghan Markle has been secretly in touch with the animal charity she supports in London. The Duchess of Sussex has reportedly been making calls to Mayhew, which has been facing financial problems amid this coronavirus crisis.

According to Newsweek, Mayhew has been having a hard time receiving funding from walk-ins or guests or raising public funds because of the social distancing and stay-at-home measures. Some of their events have also been canceled, which would have helped raised money for their operations.

The charity needs $7,400 a day to remain open. They need to buy food and medicines for the animals, as well as essentials for the pets and the owners, who are the homeless people of North West London.

Sources from Mayhew revealed that the Duchess of Sussex has been working closely with the charity. She has been calling regularly to ensure that those who benefit from the charity will receive what they need, especially when fall and winter seasons roll in.

Meghan became the patron of Mayhew in January 2019 and she came to visit the charity a year later when she briefly returned to London with Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex was enthusiastic about meeting a German Shepherd named Khan, which was seeking shelter with his owner, on her second visit to the shelter.

The duchess is an avid animal lover, as well as an advocate of rescues and pet adoptions. While staying in Toronto, where she worked on the set of her TV show, Suits, Meghan became the proud owner of two rescue dogs. Today, she and Prince Harry have a black Labrador named Oz and her Beagle rescue named Guy.

Mayhew was one of the first charities she chose to take in for her patronage as a member of the royal family. The charity has been in existence since 1886, according to Daily Mail. It is a pet refuge service but is unlike any other animal charity because the humans are also part of the support system and beneficiaries.

Meanwhile, It is still unclear if Meghan will have an animal advocacy as she begins her new foundation with Prince Harry. The couple has come up with Archewell to replace Sussex Royal but they have yet to launch the new initiative, which was stalled by the coronavirus lockdown. It's likely that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will have something new for Archewell this fall in Los Angeles.
