Microsoft announced in 2019 that its next-generation gaming console Xbox Series X is coming in the holiday of 2020. A new report surfaced online lately, claiming that the Redmond-based tech giant is gearing to launch a redesigned infrastructure as it enters a new console generation. Microsoft would reportedly debut codename Mercury to all Xbox fans.
Windows Central recently released a report stating that Microsoft would soon launch Mercury, an overhaul of the current Xbox Store. According to the report, the term Mercury is the codename of the forthcoming redesign of the company's digital storefront. Mercury is founded on a new architecture for 4K TVs, the report explained.
The upcoming redesign to the company's digital storefront is reportedly being prepared not only for the Xbox Series X but also for the Xbox Lockhart. For the uninitiated, Xbox Lockhart is the cheaper but more powerful version of the current generation Xbox One. In terms of visual design, it would share some similarities with what is available at present on the Xbox One.
The website emphasized that Mercury would bring a lot of changes to the architecture under the hood. But, it also said that changes in features and design could happen in the digital storefront in the future. Windows Central claimed that the information came from several Xbox insiders who have discovered the mysterious Mercury codename in the Xbox One consoles.
The report also claimed that the Redmond-based tech giant might implement more design changed and features ahead of the public testing. Microsoft has not yet released a statement in connection with Mercury. It is highly likely that it would update its infrastructure to make sure smooth compatibility with the forthcoming Xbox Series X.
