The death of George Floyd in the hands of police officers has caused a riot in the US. What started to be a protest on how cops mishandled the situation that led to the unnecessary demise of the 59-year-old African-American man quickly became chaotic as protesters started to burn and break anything that they see. Also, a lot of them grabbed the opportunity to steal goods from high-end stores, which had nothing to do with the issue.
Protesters, celebrities, influencers, and more have been supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust also showed support to the campaign by sharing a powerful message on social media, pointing out that “Silence is not an option.”
The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which Queen Elizabeth is a patron of and counts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as its president and vice-president, tweeted that young people’s voices are very important in fighting against injustice and racism, which had been going on for a very long time all around the world. It also shared Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous line: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” adding the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter.
What made the situation heartbreaking was the fact that George Floyd, who was suspected by a grocery store employee to be paying a counterfeit $20 note, was begging for his life after repeatedly saying that he couldn’t breathe when police officer Derek Chauvin placed his knee on George’s neck. His pleas were unheard. Moments later, George died.
The protest over George Floyd’s death is still ongoing as of this writing.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have a protest of their own after fearing the safety of their son Archie. Drones were, reportedly, surrounding the couple’s home in Los Angeles in recent weeks and some were flying as low as 20 feet.
It is believed that the drones were operated by paparazzi. Since they are not allowed to go near Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s residence, they probably saw using drones as an effective option. But paparazzi photographers were not the only suspects in the incident as it was also treated as a potential terrorist threat.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reported the threatening event to the Los Angeles Police Department. A spokesperson from the LAPD confirmed that the incident was reported on May 20 at 11:12 am.
