Sony earlier announced that it postponed the previously scheduled PlayStation 5 showcase. The decision comes in the wake of outrage, unrest, and protest over the death of George Floyd and police brutality. At present, Sony has not revealed a new date for the event set initially for Jun 4, 2020.
On its official Twitter account, PlayStation announced that it decided to postpone the PlayStation 5 June 4 event. It said that although it understands that gamers all over the world are excited to know the PS5 titles, it felt that it is not the right time to celebrate. The Japanese gaming giant further noted that it wants to give way for 'more important voices to be heard.'
The tweet is directly in reference to the death of George Floyd in Minnesota and the protests that have taken place in the US and other parts of the world. The Japanese gaming giant already planned to utilize the Thursday event to showcase Ps5 titles. Earlier, the company revealed an hour-long affair and promised to offer first-look at some of the upcoming games that fans would soon be playing on the PS5.

The company's decision follows a similar move made by EA when it postponed the "Madden NFL 21" event. The search engine giant Google also decided to delay the announcement of Android 11 beta. Microsoft also readjusted its schedule in the wake of the global health crisis caused by the lethal coronavirus.
Over the past weeks, the gaming industry saw several major gaming events and conferences postpone their schedules, one of which is the much-awaited E3. Sony's decision is no longer surprising, but it still got mixed reactions from fans and gamers. One gamer was vocal with his opinion and said that the rest of the world has nothing to do with the US's problem.
Reactions vary, and some of them include claims that gaming is a platform to escape from the current reality. Others suggested that fans would just have to wait a little longer before seeing their much-anticipated game trailers. Some people sounded disappointed, but they also acknowledge that there are far more important things in this world than video games.
So far, Sony has not yet revealed the date of the postponed PlayStation 5 event. When the delayed event happens, it is anticipated to showcase a wide array of first party and third party PS5 games.
