Even though the Black Lives Matter movement had been active since 2013, it was heavily highlighted last month when an African-American man George Floyd died at the hands of police brutality. People have been expecting public figures to support and speak out about the campaign, which Meghan Markle did.

But two of the most popular members of the Royal Family, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have yet to share their thoughts regarding the Black Lives Matter movement. Since the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge remained quiet about the issue, some were not too happy with them.

"A lot of people say well in the US it is a political issue but it is not a political issue, it is affecting the entire world,” royal commentator Rachel Bowie said during the Royally Obsessed podcast. "It is a human issue that every person on earth needs to address so I think that their silence is a little deafening.”

Roberta Fiorito also pointed out that Queen Elizabeth didn’t speak out about the Black Lives movement as well. The royal commentator later noted that Her Majesty should be given the benefit of the doubt because when the coronavirus pandemic struck, she didn’t address it right away but she eventually did.

In a televised speech, Queen Elizabeth thanked frontline NHS staff, care workers, and people who have been helping out during the global health crisis. Her Majesty’s message was not just to rally against the coronavirus pandemic, but also to give hope for the people. The Royal family, especially the monarch, are huge inspirations to the public, which is why her speech meant a lot to many.

Since racism is a global issue, people are also hoping to hear from Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and the rest of the Royal family members.

As for Meghan Markle, she touched on the subject during a speech she gave to graduates at the Immaculate Heart High School in Los Angeles. She shared her “absolute devastation” about the death of George Floyd due to racial divisions. In a video message, the Duchess of Sussex shared what she felt with the whole thing. Although Prince Harry’s wife was worried if she'll say the right words, she was determined to speak out.

On June 1, The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, which Queen Elizabeth is a patron of and counts Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as its president and vice-president, showed support to the Black Lives Matter campaign by sharing a powerful message on social media.
