Meghan Markle was an actress before dating Prince Harry and eventually tying the knot in 2018. The Duchess of Sussex started her career in the entertainment world as a briefcase model on the game show Deal or No Deal. She then became a struggling actress before landing the role of Rachel Zane in Suits.
According to a 2018 book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” Meghan Markle has been creating her personal brand since 2006. This was that time that the Duchess of Sussex was one of the 26 “Briefcase Girls” on Deal or No Deal.
While many of the models felt extremely lucky to be a part of Deal or No Deal as it was a pretty popular show in the US, Meghan Markle saw it as a temporary stint and had her eyes on acting. But when she finally got her chance to be a part of a TV drama, the Duchess of Sussex didn’t think she did well.
Meghan Markle first went into read for the character of feisty Rachel Zane and thought that her audition was terrible. “I had gone and auditioned and I thought it was one of the worst auditions I’d ever done,” the Duchess of Sussex told Larry King in 2013.
Little did Meghan Markle know that the people in the audition room were impressed with her acting and wanted her to join the cast. She was the last one out of the main cast of Suits to be chosen.
Fast forward to 2020 and Meghan Markle is now the wife of Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex had to turn her back on the career that she worked hard on to be a member of the Royal Family, but the couple is speculated to be joining the Hollywood scene after they officially stepped down as senior royals at the end of March.
Before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their withdrawal, the former actress gave everyone a taste of their possible future job by lending her voice to a Disney documentary titled Elephant back in August last year, which is about elephants in Africa.
However, Royal editor of Daily Mirror Russell Myers said that the plans of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are "up in the air" at the moment due to the coronavirus outbreak. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex even announced the name of their new foundation Archewell back in April, but he said that "these plans are in tatters."
