Breastfeeding has always been very beneficial to babies' growth. A mother's milk is filled with antibodies that could act as a strong defense to the baby's delicate body against bacteria and viruses. Furthermore, it also has a lot of vitamins and minerals, which is very effective in making a child smarter and healthier, as reported by Health Line.

BREASTMILK HAS NO LIVE STRAINS OF CORONAVIRUS

Recently, there have been debates on the benefits and risks of a mother's breast milk. Finally, a study conducted by the World Health Organization was able to clear things out-- COVID-19 can't be passed on to babies through breastfeeding. Despite the fragments of the coronavirus found in the mother's milk, no strains of live viruses were found, making it safe to consume for the baby.

Since its benefits could outweigh its potential risks, the researchers from WHO says that breast milk is still the best food for babies this pandemic, as shared by ABS-CBN News. Experts are advising moms to give their children breast milk from birth until at least 2 years of age to maximize its benefits.

This isn't just for those who were tested negative of the virus, but also to those who were infected as well. They only have to follow certain precautions before and after handling their babies.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND WHEN BREASTFEEDING DURING THIS PANDEMIC

To be able to safely feed their babies, experts advise mothers to follow good and proper hygiene during feeding. If the mother's feeling well, wearing a mask, washing hands with soap and clean water for 20 seconds before and after breastfeeding, and disinfecting the baby's room regularly can help keep the baby safe.

But if the mother's not okay and showing COVID-19 symptoms, it is better to seek the help of medical practitioners the soonest. Follow the guidelines they will teach while still observing proper hygiene.
