Fans have been waiting for Friends reunion for years. It was confirmed earlier this year but the filming has been on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic. Now, cast member David Schwimmer offered details on what fans could expect from their return and when they will start filming.

In his remote appearance at The Tonight Show, Schwimmer shared some updates about the much-awaited Friends reunion special on HBO Max. He said it will be an unscripted episode which includes some fun interviews with the cast members.

Schwimmer also teased that fans would also expect some surprises in their reunion. The American Crime Story actor, also, offered an update on when the cast would start shooting for the reunion special.

Schwimmer shared that they are hoping to start filming next month but admitted that they aren't sure at the moment if it would be possible by that time. He said they are still on a "wait and see" status.

The Intelligence actor explained that they still have to wait for a couple more weeks to determine if it is already safe for everyone to shoot. If not, Schwimmer said they don't have a choice but to wait for a little longer.

WarnerMedia Entertainment and Direct-to-Consumer chairman Bob Greenblatt announced, in May, that they are hoping to start filming the Friends reunion special by the end of summer. He added that the last thing they would like to do is to give up the live audience and turn it into a webchat of the six cast members, who would also serve as executive producers of the special.

HBO and Warner Bros. announced, in February, that Schwimmer along with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry agreed to do the reunion special. The stars were supposed to start filming in March at the show's original soundstage on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, California. But, it was suspended due to the pandemic.

The Friends reunion special was supposed to premiere during the HBO Max launch on May 27. It was pushed back because of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon, also, asked Schwimmer about the much-debated break up of his Friends character, Ross and Rachel (Aniston). Schwimmer said their fans are so passionate about the hit NBC sitcom and they were also divided about whether or not Rachel and Ross were on a break.

The actor admitted that he believed that the two are indeed on a break. Fans would have to wait if this would be discussed at the Friends reunion special.
