The Minnesota Timberwolves will pick first in the 2020 NBA Draft, assuming they do not end up trading that right away. The incoming rookie class hasn't gotten a lot of hype with a lot of virtual unknowns, except for Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and perhaps James Wiseman. The rest of the prospects are a mystery.

Of course, that may change depending on how well teams are able to scout this year's class. But as far as the Timberwolves, trading down to the third pick while also getting a future one in the process could make the most sense.

Right now, most see the T-Wolves picking either Ball or Edwards. Some claim that their plan is to find another guard who can run with D'Angelo Russell – something that could account for an explosive backcourt. Unfortunately, that also hints at seeing a poor defensive duo, whether this be a Russell-Ball or Russell-Edwards combo.

The thing here is that Minnesota could pick and then trade whomever they plan to get to fill in key positions such as the wing. If not, they could also consider Wiseman, who is touted as a promising player. Though he has proven to be a defensive stopper, critics feel that he still needs a lot of polishing.

Of course, Wiseman can prove pundits wrong. With Karl-Anthony Towns, he could flourish as a defensive machine. If Minnesota wants added offense, there are several sleepers to consider. That includes small forwards like Deni Avdija or even Aaron Nesmith, two names that could prove detractors wrong based on the mock draft presented by CBS Sports.

Looking at it in another way, trading their top pick to the Charlotte Hornets could make sense. The Hornets will be picking third and need a center. Wiseman could be their guy. Though they will go down the draft order, they could get a future pick (2021) and then maybe even end up with either Ball or Edwards, depending on who the Golden State Warriors get.

It seems like a crazy situation but the bottom line here is that the T-Wolves are expanding options moving forward. They could have same to better options next year and get the right player to join the mix. But right now, trading down could be their best choice.
