There is little doubt that people have high hopes when it comes to the upcoming series that will focus on Obi-Wan Kenobi. After all, the new Star Wars show will reveal what happened to the Jedi Master after the events in Revenge of the Sith and before his meeting with Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.

However, fans shouldn't expect to see Obi-Wan's story being explored throughout several seasons. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has just confirmed that the Ewan McGregor series will only run for a single season.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated shows on Disney+ after The Mandalorian, especially since fans have been hoping for the return of the Jedi Master for a long time. Back in 2015, there was speculation that a Star Wars standalone film focusing on Obi-Wan would be one of the spin-off projects alongside Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Unfortunately, that idea was scrapped and Disney ultimately chose to pursue it as a series that would air on the studio's streaming service. But before people get too excited about this, Kathleen Kennedy has revealed in an interview with The Wrap that Lucasfilm isn't planning to stretch the story out over several years.

In the interview, Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that director Deborah Chow, who had previously worked on two episodes for the first season of The Mandalorian, has been preparing for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series despite the COVID-19 lockdowns. In her statement, Kennedy stated that the new Star Wars project will be a one-shot deal for Lucasfilm and Disney.

"It's been very exciting to see the talent that's come in. And we're now developing the limited Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Deborah Chow, and she's just been doing a phenomenal job," Kennedy said.

It's not exactly surprising that the Obi-Wan Kenobi show will be a limited series. After all, it has already been confirmed that the new Star Wars show will only have eight episodes and will explore what happened to the Jedi Master after he brought the baby Luke Skywalker back to Tatooine.

Obi-Wan's life may have been exciting at some point but he spent most of his stay on the planet being a hermit so there won't be a lot of things to really look into. Nevertheless, Star Wars fans are delighted with the idea that Ewan McGregor will soon reprise his role as the Jedi Master.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has not yet been given an official production start date nor an official release date. However, the Star Wars show is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime next year.
