Talk about a potential Manny Pacquiao fight against Conor McGregor has been suggested but it appears it will remain a rumor. For one of the people behind the Pac-Man, a fight with The Notorious is a waste of time.

Justin Fortune does not see any gains coming Pacquiao's way if he faces McGregor. In a report by Josef Ramos from the Manila Times, the strength and conditioning coach believes that the boxer-senator will gain nothing and potentially tarnish his legacy in the process.

“Why even make that guy rich? And it won’t do absolutely nothing for Pacquiao as far as his legacy [is concerned]. Remember, this is just my opinion. Manny goes down as the greatest fighter in history when he finishes, because no one has done what he accomplished in boxing,” Fortune said via an overseas call to the writer.

There is no doubt that Pacquiao will go down as one of the great fighters in boxing. He has accomplished so much and the only question right now is when the Pac-Man plans to call it a career. The Filipino boxing icon will be turning 42 in December and the COVID-19 has only complicated matters on when he could fight next.

There is no doubt that McGregor showed he can last in the boxing ring. He proved that against Floyd Mayweather in what some may deem as a battle of stamina. Against Pacquiao, things will be different.

The Pac-man loves to mix it up and trade blows. McGregor may be good in mixed martial arts but this does not hold in boxing. If McGregor wants to win over Pacquiao, he needs to find ways to avoid the fast flurry of punches that the eight-time division champion can unload. In all, it will be an entirely different clash if the Irishman picks a fight with Pacquiao.

McGregor retired from the MMA scene following his win over Donald Cerrone. Some have linked him to a possible rematch with Mayweather who has been in close contact with UFC president Dana White.

But no less than White himself said that a rematch may not be in the cards with McGregor officially retired. But of course, that is subject to change if White and Mayweather come to terms. Though there are mixed martial arts fighters feasible, a rematch with McGregor still looms as the most profitable.

As for Pacquiao, there is no word on when he will return to the ring. Mikey Garcia has been suggested as his next opponent but nothing has progressed thus far.
