Thousands of health gurus, programs, books, workshops, blog posts, and lectures. What sort of issue will cause so many of us to spend so much money trying to find an answer? Losing weight.
We can't recommend what's going to fit best for you as everyone is unique. What we're going to do is look at a handful of mistakes, which experts believe that people do before they diet.
Not reading nutrition labels
Yeah, you have to read it out. It takes time to know how many calories there are in a serving unless you happen to be a robot and can accurately measure what looks like a half-cup serving. If you are human like the rest of us, sorry, but you're going to have to take the time to know how much you consume. You would be surprised to learn how small one serving of pasta is or a serving of almost any dessert.
Excessively limiting calories
It sounds counter-intuitive, but dramatically reducing the calories you eat all at once is not a perfect weight-loss technique.
You're going to drop pounds but the problem is you're going to lose weight in your muscle mass. And muscle mass is what makes you lose calories when you're in rest during the day. Don't restrict your calorie intake too much, and don't try to lose too much weight too fast.
Wrong food choices
There's more than enough low-calorie food out there but it doesn't mean it's nutritious. Try eating whole foods rather than processed foods. Whole foods have a structure which keeps you from consuming too much - it's called fiber.
Just because a food is low in calories doesn't mean that it's rich in vitamins and minerals. Rice cakes are relatively low in calories but they also have low vitamins.
Wrong choice of workout
Many people rely on aerobic exercise for burning calories. That's important. When you have an app that measures the loss of calories by form of workout, you will find that lifting weights do not burn too many calories.
The figures can be deceptive. Weight lifting will help you build muscle. And what you want is a better proportion of muscle to fat, not just a fat-free body. By building the muscle, you make calories easier for your body to burn when you're in rest.
Go easy on yourself
Losing weight is hard so don't overlook the battle. Every year about 50 million Americans attempt to diet. A huge proportion, some say about 95%, do not reach their goals. So don't give up. Understand you are performing a difficult task before you begin.
Some have been successful and you can too. Remember that your physical self is just as critical as your psychological self, so don't ignore that aspect of your weight loss journey.
