It is finally time for the Girl of Steel to hang up her cape. The beloved DC series Supergirl has just been cancelled by The CW, announcing that the Arrowverse show will conclude with its upcoming season.

Not surprisingly, Melissa Benoit was feeling emotional when the news broke. However, there is a huge possibility that Supergirl Season 6 will not be the last time fans can see Kara Danvers in action.

Variety confirmed that The CW had made a joint decision with show producers Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions that Supergirl Season 6 would be the final season. The writers of the series are currently working on the last 20 episodes of the sixth season, which is then expected to begin production later in September. Although the official release date has not yet been announced, Kara Zor-El is expected to fly for the last time next year.

It's heartbreaking news for fans who have followed Supergirl since it first aired on CBS in 2015 before making the move to The CW. Luckily, Melissa Benoist was quick to comfort everyone with a heartwarming tribute to the cancelled series.

Melissa Benoist took to her official Instagram account to share a photo of herself working as Supergirl. She also added a lengthy caption that started with expressing the honor she felt for being part of the show.

"To say it has been an honor portraying this iconic character would be a massive understatement. Seeing the incredible impact the show has had on young girls around the world has always left me humbled and speechless," Benoist wrote before paying tribute to Kara Danvers, sharing how the character changed her life and promising "one helluva final season."

Interestingly, Melissa Benoist concluded her post with the Kryptonian phrase "el mayarah," which means "stronger together." It's a sweet sentiment but it also had fans wondering if it means Kara Danvers will continue to appear in the Arrowverse, possibly alongside her famous cousin

Although Supergirl Season 6 will be the final one for the series, The CW is currently producing the spin-off show Superman & Lois that will focus on Clark Kent and Lois Lane and will premiere on the the network in January next year. It's best to remember that Kal-El was introduced into the Arrowverse through his fellow Kryptonian's series. With that in mind, fans are hoping that it means Melissa Benoist would appear as a guest or maybe play a supporting role.

For now, there is no confirmation whether Melissa Benoist will appear in Superman & Lois. Nevertheless, we will keep you updated on this story.
