A newly uncovered information could be hinting that the announcement of "Final Fantasy 16" might happen very soon. The rumored title is one of the much-awaited games since the release of "Final Fantasy 15" four years ago. The latest discovery is, by far, the biggest hint that fans could get from Square Enix in relation to the rumored title.

A placeholder account for "Final Fantasy 16" recently surfaced on Twitter. While it could mean nothing, the account could also imply that Square Enix wants to secure the username for the popular JRPG series' upcoming installment. At the time of this writing, the Twitter account is locked, which means any tweet from the account is not visible to anyone.

The "Final Fantasy 16" Twitter account was made in August 2020 and has a Twitter handle @FF16_JP. Several fans believed that the account could be a hint that the game's announcement could happen soon. However, it is important to point out that anyone could make a Twitter account, so it is by no means a confirmation of anything.

On the other hand, Twitter accounts could exist privately and some game developers do this to prepare for the game's social media presence when it is finally ready to announce the game. Many fans believed that the recently announced "Project Athia" is actually "Final Fantasy 16" and that it was just a code name. However, Square Enix earlier made it clear that "Project Athia" is a new IP that could share some similarities to a "Final Fantasy" game.

"Final Fantasy 15" was the last mainline title to launch in the current generation. Square Enix later released "Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1." So far, there has not been a new "Final Fantasy" mainline title since "FFXIII."

It is expected that Square Enix will release "Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2" soon. The game is currently in development and game developers already assured fans that it will arrive soon. Many believed that "Final Fantasy 16" is going to be announced very soon and that the game has already entered into production.

Multiple job listings posted by Square Enix suggested that the company's Business Division 3 is in-charge of "Final Fantasy 16." The team has been looking for developers for a brand new project. It has also shared an artwork seemingly teasing about a new "FF" setting.

If Square Enix is really planning to launch "Final Fantasy 16" this year, the best venue to announce it is at the next major PS5 event. Sony is rumored to hold another event for its next-gen console this month with new gameplay from exclusive titles and timed-exclusive content.
