Miley Cyrus has been in a roller coaster of emotions in the past few weeks. She revealed her split from now-ex-boyfriend, Cody Simpson, hours before she released a new song. Then, it was followed by the death of her beloved grandmother. On all of these, the singer found a song that helped her cope with her recent loss.

Cyrus opened up about the death of her grandmother, Loretta Finley, whom she fondly called "Mammie." During her recent appearance on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, Cyrus recalled that she got the news about the death of her Mammie from her mother, Tish Cyrus.

The Hannah Montana actress said her mom called while she was preparing for her "Midnight Sky" performance. Miley said her mom doesn't need to say anything. She just knew that it's about her Mammie.

Miley said she dropped everything at that instance and hopped in her car to be with her family as soon as possible. She spent a week with her mother and they played the favorite songs of her Mammie on repeat.

The "Wrecking Ball" singer, also, paid tribute to Finley in her post on Instagram. Cyrus said her Mammie was her "inspiration and fashion icon" and her ultimate model of being a "true light in a dark world."

Miley Cyrus shared that her grandmother loved The Eagles so much and she has been playing the band's songs non-stop since she passed away. The Last Song actress said she particularly loves the group's 1975 hit song "Take It To The Limit."

The "Midnight Sky" songstress explained that this was the song her mother and grandmother sang in the car every day on their way to school. Cyrus performed a cover of "Take It To The Limit" on the Live Lounge.

Miley added that The Eagles has been a big inspiration to her. While giving respect to the past artists that inspired her like the "Hotel California" hitmakers, Cyrus, also, praised young singers today who get inspiration from the past. She named Billie Eilish as one of them.

The "Slide Away" singer said she loves Eilish's "My Future," which has a bit of jazz inspiration. Miley, clad in a black sparkling dress, did a rock ballad/jazz rendition of the song.

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus, also, performed "Slide Away" and her new single "Midnight Sky" on Live Lounge. Her recent appearance on BBC Radio 1 show came just a few days after her first stage performance of her new song at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards.
