Riverdale season 5 hasn't started filming at the moment. The fifth installment wasn't able to start production immediately due to the current global health crisis. Despite the delay, we could still expect a lot of big surprises once the series returns to The CW.

The biggest concern, however, is that one of the main characters might be killed off in Riverdale season 5. In a recent Twitter post, executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa shared the script's pages from episodes three and four of the fifth installment.

The third episode is titled "Graduation," and this is one of the episodes left before filming was halted earlier this year. It could set up the stage for new stories, as well as a new era for the core characters. They'll be heading to college this time around.

Episode 4 is titled "Purgatory," which is quite concerning. In the post, Aguirre-Sacasa shared an image featuring some of Archie's (KJ Apa) friends standing at a grave and his face is hanging above them. He is wearing a military uniform, which seemingly suggests that something bad happened to him.

It remains to be seen whether or not Archie will die in Riverdale season 5. But, since he's one of the major characters, it's unlikely that he would be killed off all of a sudden. After all, this isn't the first time the series made viewers concerned about the fate of a character.

For instance, Jughead's (Cole Spouse) fate has been in question before. But, it turned out that he faked his death to reveal the truth about his new school. Perhaps, Archie's friends presumed he's dead after serving in the military, only for him to return home fine.

Also, the image could be a manifestation of some of their fears and not meant to be taken in a literal sense at all. The series has already shown most of the characters living in fears. The photo could be a dream sequence, wherein one of them sees Archie's death.

Meanwhile, the prom and graduation ceremonies will be the first stories in Riverdale season 5. The series plans to wrap up the remaining episodes in the fourth installment before opening new chapters for everyone. In addition, there could be a time jump at some point in the new season.

Speaking to TVLine, Aguirre-Sacasa said they would tackle prom and graduation first in the fifth installment. These two events were already written in episodes 21 and 22. The executive producer described them as "big" and "emotional."

Riverdale season 5 is expected to premiere in 2021.
