For the second year in a row, the Milwaukee Bucks fell short of making it to the NBA finals. This 2019-20 season was more disappointing considering the team racked a good record but fell to the Miami Heat. Making matters worse, it was hardly a close series – not even reaching a game 7.

Hence, the blame game has started and some feel that heads will roll. At the top of the list is Mike Budenholzer. Most feel that his employment is in danger but initial reports claim otherwise. Shams Charania of The Athletic says Budenholizer’s job is safe although anything can still happen moving forward.

Worth noting here is that there seems to be some disappointment on the part of Giannis Antetokounmpo during the post-game interview of their final game of the season. The Greek Freak seemed annoyed with Budenholzer’s rotation and refusal to play him and Khris Middleton. This could be out of frustration but such is likely to be seen differently.

Antetokounmpo is the guy that could save Budenholzer from the heat of potential dismissal. The 25-year-old is unlikely to be traded unless he asks for it. As of this writing, Antetokounmpo said he does not want to be traded. He has one year left in his contract with the Bucks so expect management to try and secure him with an extension.

Though Antetokounmpo has had MVP-like numbers, critics point out some flaws in his game. The most notable of which is his lack of an outside shot, something that makes him predictable. For most, the Greek Freak will do his damage inside the paint which may something be ideal only for the regular season. It changes once winning time is around.

Regardless, he remains a valuable player to have. For the Bucks, the need to surround Antetokounmpo with players who can hit it from outside or help in scoring is a need. Milwaukee has had some players of that caliber. However, their presence is useless unless Budenholzer or any coach can implement a system that works for the team.

Budenholizer’s job may be safe but a sense of urgency is in the air. He needs to find a way to make sure that the Buck’s killer instinct lasts from their opening day game to the playoffs. The Bucks could make the playoffs next season once more, hopefully with a better performance. If Milwaukee falls short anew, the Bucks may part with Budenholzer and possibly Antetokounmpo if matters are not addressed.
