The Golden State Warriors own the rights to the second overall pick of the 2020 NBA Draft with most pondering on who they will take in. Their main target is believed to be Anthony Edwards but this will depend on whether the Minnesota Timberwolves will pass on him and take LaMelo Ball instead.

Regardless of whoever they pick, the Warriors may consider trading that player to other teams for a tested player. One name that has been mentioned recently is Jrue Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans. Tim Bontemps of ESPN offers an interesting scenario, something that could make sense.

He offered an interesting trade package that involved former top pick, Andrew Wiggins. Together with their no. 2 pick, such would be a hard-to-refuse package. However, the problem there is getting the right player for such a deal. Holiday was singled out though there could be other players the Dubs might want to explore.

There are top names available but the Warriors need to take in the right one. Bradley Beal would have made sense, same with Ben Simmons or Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers. All players have been declared off-limits but stranger things have happened in the past in the NBA.

The New Orleans Pelicans are coming off yet another disappointing season. The team is due for a shakeup with the next coach likely to figure out who stays and who goes. Already likely to be kept is Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. Holiday could be a candidate for an exit, especially with the club owning a lot of younger guards in the mix.

But if one is to touch on the Warriors' immediate need, it is a big man. James Wiseman would be the logical choice to fill in the middle. But that option may only materialize if the Dubs are willing to work on the 19-year-old slot man. Considering he has a lot of areas of improvement, Golden State will need to invest a lot of time on him.

The Warriors possibly trading their pick is nothing new. In a previous post, Spencer Dinwiddie speculated that the Dubs would end up trading their pick for a veteran player. Holiday could make sense but may not be the ideal player to consider since he is already in his 30s.

The Pelicans would welcome this deal to get another young player in the fold. However, they may have to sweeten the pot and offer more assets to make it work. The deal is a bit shady but something that could make sense depending on who the Warriors want.
