It's no secret that Ready Player One was one of the biggest sci-fi films of 2018. The movie, which was directed by Steven Spielberg, was an awesome adaptation of Ernest Cline's book of the same name but it also deviated from the source material in a way that pleased audiences.
In addition to that, Ready Player One concluded on a note that suggested that a sequel would be needed to find out what happened to the gunters after they had possession of OASIS. So, will this be explored in the possible sequel? Tye Sheridan has just dropped an awesome update on the highly anticipated Ready Player Two.
The book Ready Player One was undoubtedly a pageturner since it featured several pop-culture references that translated perfectly into the film. The success of Steven Spielberg's adaptation has also convinced Ernest Cline to work on a sequel that would be titled Ready Player Two. Although the second book has yet to be released, fans are already hoping for another adaptation and Tye Sheridan admitted that he is looking forward to a sequel as well.
Tye Sheridan recently spoke to Comicbook.com where he was asked for updates on Ready Player Two. The X-Men: Apocalypse star confirmed that this is the one question that he gets asked all the time and he pointed out that they will need to wait until the second novel is released before the movie can been announced. In the meantime, Sheridan says that fans can continue to speculate as much as they want but he doesn't "really know what the plan is yet."
But, would Tye Sheridan be up to return as Wade Watts aka Parzival in Ready Player Two? The X-Men: Dark Phoenix actor quickly confessed that it was something he is eager to do.
"I have my fingers crossed and, of course, I think it's a great and I loved working on that film, so yeah, I hope, I hope we get to do another," Sheridan said.
Ready Player One takes place in the future and follows Wade Watts aka Parzival, an ambitious young man who takes part in a virtual game littered with clues that would grant ownership of OASIS, the virtual reality software where people go to escape the desolate world.
Ernest Cline's new novel Ready Player Two will be released on November 24. The planned film adaptation of the second book has not yet been announced. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
