Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's very vocal stance on U.S. politics sparked controversy in the U.K. because the couple has apparently broken their promise to Queen Elizabeth.

Commentators on the Royal Rota show analyzed Meghan Markle and her husband's political calls as the U.S. presidential elections approach. Royal journalist Chris Ship said that the Sussexes should just stop meddling on this issue because it's going against the values of the Queen.

Ship said that, while it is understandable that Meghan might want to proclaim her support for a candidate as an American, most Britons have issues with the Duke of Sussex. Before the pair left London to start an independent life in America, Harry, and to some extent Meghan, promised their grandmother that they would "uphold" her values.

Queen Elizabeth is known for her impartiality, especially in politics. The Sussexes have failed in this regard because they've been appearing on shows and video conferences to urge Americans to vote.

Ship also said that Meghan's political calls have been interpreted as a sign of support for the Democratic party's candidates, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. He advised the couple to just stay out of U.S. politics "completely" because this November election will be "bitter" and "fraught."

The commentator's co-host Lizzie Robinson, however, pointed out that whatever Meghan and Harry say or do will always end up in the headlines. The commentator said that Meghan Markle is especially scrutinized by the British press every time she speaks.

But, Ship had a rebuttal for Robinson's observation and reiterated that the pair should just keep quiet. The commentator said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are aware of how much people pour over their words and actions. If they want a private life, then, they can simply achieve this by not commenting, especially about the elections.

Meanwhile, a report from E! News cited that royals who are so outspoken naturally stir up controversy. Prince Charles, for example, has had royal watchers on the edge whenever he makes comments about climate change or his pontifications about his advocacies.

One government official apparently said that history has shown a monarchy that thrives on success is when a monarch stays away from politics. Most British people will easily accept the monarch but not when that person is seen as a political force.

While Harry won't likely become a monarch, as the Duke of Sussex is further down the line of succession, he still needs to temper his political opinions. Some royal observers think that by extension, his wife Meghan Markle, must also do the same
