Domestic Duo Break Billion Box Office

As of Sunday, "My People, My Homeland" and "Legend of Deification," had earned 1 billion yuan ($147 million) each at the box office, according to Maoyan. 

"My People, My Homeland" is a sequel to "My Mother Land and Me," which was released during the national holiday last year. "Legend of Deification," an animated movie was produced by the same companies that made last year's domestic box office champion "Ne Zha."

According to data consulting platform Wind, 11 listed cinema companies in China suffered an average loss of 342 million yuan in the first half year. Wanda Cinemas reported the biggest loss of as much as 1.567 billion yuan, while Huace Group and Enlight Media reported minor profits.

Analysts estimated the full eight-day holiday will see 4.06 billion to 5.11 billion yuan in box office, which is a recovery to 92% to 116% of box office compared with one year ago. 

Hainan Eyes Transport System By 2025

As Hainan styles itself as a duty-free shopping paradise, the southern island province also plans to build a modern and comprehensive transport system by 2025, to be integrated with five civil airports. 

This is part of a bid to enhance Hainan's role as a free trade port, an ecological civilization pilot zone and an international tourism and shopping center, according to the Xinhua News Agency which quoted a planning document released by the National Development and Reform Commission. 

Haikou Meilan International Airport, Sanya Phoenix International Airport and Qionghai Boao International Airport will be the core of the transport system which will provide services to the country and around the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

Passenger capacity on Hainan high-speed highway is expected to reach 40 million passenger trips each year. It will take one and a half hours for transport on Hainan Highway between the cities of Haikou and Sanya. There are plans for up to 80 ports along its coast.

In June, China released its master plan for Hainan free trade port, aspiring to build it into a globally influential high-level free trade port by the middle of the century. The plan indicated a free trade port system, which will focus on trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, that is scheduled to be "basically established" by 2025. 

2020 Beijing Auto Show Lauds Success

The 10-day Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, the first international motor-vehicle show since the pandemic ended Monday. More than 80 models debuted under global brands, CCTV reported.  

The Beijing show was delayed for five months as a result of the coronavirus while Chicago, Detroit, Geneva, Los Angeles, New York and Paris shows were all canceled this year. 

There were 530,000 visitors and 785 automobile models participating in the exhibition. As many as 160 were electric while 147 were made by domestic companies. 

There were 12,786 reporters from 18 countries - including 89 overseas news agencies, said the authority.

Twenty-six motor vehicles - including BEIJING X7, Mustang Mach-E, BMW iX3, Audi Q5L Sportback and CS75 Plus - were voted by online viewers to be the "best new models of 2020."

A China Automobile Dealers Association representative said the domestic market experienced "V" shape growth this year and would remain positive in the next two months.
