Leaker reveals Apple mulling on increasing the storage capacity of up to 1TB in succeeding iPhone models.

After several years of gradually increasing storage allotments in various iPhone models, Apple is seriously considering offering 1TB storage capacity in its next models. The current base storage capacity of standard iPhone 12's is at 64GB with high-end models featuring up to a maximum of 512GB storage capacity. Rumors are now rife that coming iPhones may feature up to 1TB storage and will also come with many new features and improvements.

According to popular Apple leaker Jon Prosser, iPhone 13 models, scheduled for launch in 2021, may include a 1TB internal storage option. Apple's current 512GB maximum storage was first introduced in 2018 with the Apple iPhone XS. Since then, this storage capacity remains the maximum internal storage that the company offers. That may change soon with the rumored 1TB storage capacity, as leaked by Prosser, who is found to be often right when it comes to talks about Apple devices and technology.

Having a maximum of 1TB storage capacity in coming iPhones is not only practical but is also logical. As Apple continuously improve on hardware components like its camera and as it also enhances its useful apps, the current base storage capacity of 64GB may appear very small indeed. For instance, if you use your iPhone 12 Pro to shoot 4K videos, you should know that every minute of such video can consume between 300 and 400MB of storage space, which means a 3-minute video could require 1GB of storage space. This is on top of the storage you need for your iOS, apps, and many other files that you may need to store on your iPhone.

In an App Intelligence analysis published by Sensor Tower in 2017, observers found that the storage capacity requirement of apps also grows as Apple increases the storage capacity on its iPhones. Hence, as apps become more complicated and its storage requirement increases, it is logical that storage capacities of coming iPhones should also increase, which as rumors indicate, may reach up to 1TB.

If storage capacities of iPhones remain at their present state, then you better have an external device ready to which you could immediately transfer your videos and other files, as base storage or even the mid-range 256GB storage option may not be enough if you are planning to shoot more than an hour's worth of videos and photos. A coming iPhone with a maximum storage capacity of 1TB would come in handy especially if you want to download and store full-length movies or shows you bought online.

"[H]ope y'all are ready for 1TB i[P]hones," Prosser's recent cryptic tweet reads. Many took this as a hint that coming iPhones would feature a 1TB storage option in some of its future models. Although Prosser did not specify as to when is the schedule of this more "roomy" iPhone's launch, the handset line is undeniably due for an increase in its storage capacity. This means that the coming "iPhone 13" may very well usher in the 1TB maximum storage feature.
