Christmas celebrations will be different this year because of COVID-19 but Carole Middleton, the mother of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, will continue to keep family traditions alive with her grandchildren Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Carole revealed that her grandchildren usually take part in decorating the Middleton's Christmas tree. This year, however, George, Charlotte, and Louis will not be able to visit the family home in Bucklebury because of the COVID-19 restrictions and U.K.'s second nationwide lockdown.

However, this doesn't mean that the kids can't help their grandmother decorate for Christmas. Carole revealed in an Instagram post that she will be calling on her grandchildren via video to help her decide on where the house Christmas decorations must go.

Carole said that it's important for families to stay connected in this pandemic. She said that it's also important to remember what really matters this holiday and it's all about the family.

The 65-year-old grandmother also has a 2-year-old grandson, Arthur, from daughter Pippa and son-in-law James Matthews.

Last year, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their three children spent Christmas Day with the royal family in Sandringham. For the first time, Prince George and Princess Charlotte joined the royal family's tradition of walking to church and greeting the crowd, which gathered outside to wish them Christmas cheer.

For Christmas 2020, however, plans could massively change because Queen Elizabeth should remain in isolation with Prince Philip at Windsor Castle. According to a staff at Sandringham, they received word not to expect the royal family for Christmas this year.

But, Buckingham Palace has yet to confirm the royal family's holiday plans after Dec. 2, when the government could announce new restrictions. Currently, government guidelines restrict a gathering of more than six people and a family as big as the royals will not be able to properly observe social distancing.

If Christmas in Sandringham is indeed canceled then it will be the first time in 33 years that the royals are skipping the holiday celebration in the Queen's country estate.

Prince William, Kate, and their children could likely spend Christmas Day with the Duchess of Cambridge's parents. Incidentally, the last time William and Kate celebrated Christmas with the Middletons was in 2012 or before the birth of Prince George.
