As Paul Pogba appears set to exit from Manchester United, likely as early as January, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now searching for the midfielder that will take the place of the Frenchman. The Red Devils are said to be ready to make a bid on Inter Milan star Christian Eriksen.

Eriksen signed with the Italians in January from Tottenham but his spell at the Serie A club could come to an early end following an unimpressive display with Antonio Conte's side. Reports said Inter will sell the struggling 28-year-old for £27 million.

According to Conte, offloading Eriksen is part of the plan to make Inter more functional. In turn, the player could regain more playing time with a new team and rediscover the impressive form that he showed while wearing Tottenham's shirt.

Yet while the Denmark international failed to make an impact with Inter, giant clubs are racing to acquire him from the Italians, according to Metro. If Solskjaer is looking to bring Eriksen to Old Trafford, he will need to move faster than Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Around the same time in 2019, there were talks that United wanted to sign Eriksen but the midfielder ended up joining Inter, and he seemed ready for another move away.

Just short of a year to his Serie A stint, Eriksen is preparing for another change of setting. He has appeared in 37 matches for Inter but his contribution can be best described as underwhelming. The Danish only scored four goals and Conte largely excluded him from the first team.

A Premier League return might be attractive for the Inter star but playing under Solskjaer seemed not a priority for him. The Daily Mail reported that playing for the Gunners is a thrilling prospect for Eriksen but the club has more pressing concerns than signing another midfielder for the winter break.

Eriksen can choose to play for United but the same report indicated that the star is not dying for a return to England. He intends first to repair his perceived "diminished reputation" and will do so by seeking a spot in other major leagues.

So if an offer will come from United and PSG, Eriksen will go for the French champions and passed up on the chance to play again in the Premier League.

However, the likelihood of United signing the attacking midfielder will greatly depend on Pogba leaving the club next month. The World Cup winner is tipped to exit the soonest but his camp recently indicated that the move away will happen in the summer.

If the latter is the case, Solskjaer can simply postpone a planned bid on Eriksen, and possibly the Danish will end up donning PSG's shirt in January.
