Canelo Alvarez is set to face Callum Smith in a battle of middleweights this weekend. The Mexican Brawler faces another British opponent, this time at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The bout will be a battle for the WBA, WBC super middleweight titles.

Alvarez has been christened as the British Destroyer, having defeated five so far. That list includes Ryan Rhodes, Amir Khan, Rocky Fielding, Liam Smith and Matthew Hatton, Boxingscene reported. Though many brand him this, the 30-year-old does not view himself as a conqueror of Brits.

"No, no, no, nothing like that," Canelo said. "As a matter of fact, I feel privileged that I've fought several English boxers. They're great boxers - strong, smart and once again, another one against Callum Smith I have the opportunity to do it."

Additionally, Alvarez knows that there is some potential agenda on the part of Smith. Callum is the younger brother of Liam Smith, someone he defeated way back in 2016. This was the time both fought for the WBO world title at 154-pounds.

Though siblings, Callum and Liam fight a whole lot differently. Alvarez is aware of that and knows he has to prepare well if he is to pull off another win.

"They're totally different, totally different," Canelo said. "I'm preparing 100 percent for Callum Smith. I know that he comes with some sense of revenge for his brother."

Alvarez last faced Sergey Kovalev in November 2019, winning via knockout in the 11th round. The Mexican is on a streak since losing to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.

Alvarez will also be entering the ring a bit differently. Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions are no longer around following a legal dispute that had been finally settled. It is an entirely new journey for Canelo who remains one of the top boxers of his time.

“Feeling challenged. Doing things that make me exert myself in training. And keep the mentality of making history. That’s what I like, and that’s why I keep taking the big challenges,” Alvarez said via DAZN.

For his part, Smith is someone Alvarez cannot take for granted. He remains undefeated and pulling off a win against the Mexican cannot be discounted. The 30-year-old Brit has a record 19 wins coming of KO.

Smith last fought John Ryder in November 2019 where he won via unanimous decision. Compared to past opponents, he will have his work cut out against Alvarez. Saul is a four-time division champion and is determined to keep his streak going.
