Mesut Ozil is still waiting for the right time to play football again but it appears the German will have to do so outside Emirates Stadium. The 32-year-old has been linked to other leagues in the past and it appears one of them has ramped up the chase for the German midfielder.

According to Football London, DC United is now in talks with Ozil about a potential deal. The deal involves an opportunity for the German to expand his business in the United States, something that Ozil may wet the interest of the embattled football player.

Ozil stands to gain heftily with his 39 Steps Coffee brand expanding to the Audi Field stadium. Additionally, there are plans to make the German a public figure for the Washington-based squad.

There is still no word on how the talks went although there is reason to believe that this deal could pull through. Ozil’s agent, Dr. Erik Sogut has a good relationship with DC United executive Sam Porter – the same guy who reeled in Wayne Rooney from Everton in 2018.

If both sides can get something done, it would benefit Ozil and the Gunners.

For the German, it would be a relief since he can play football once more. He has not seen action since Mar. 7 when Arsenal won over West Ham United. Football action came to a grinding halt at the time when the pandemic got out of control.

For the Gunners, it would be a big sigh of (financial) relief as they prowl this January transfer window for an attacking midfielder. The name of Julian Brandt was suggested but Arsenal lacks the funds to make the deal happen. They need roughly $49 million to take him off the hands of Borussia Dortmund, Sky Sports reported.

Ridding themselves of Ozil’s outrageous $476,000 per week contract could help the Gunners take in the talent they need. Mikel Arteta had already hinted that there are players who may be loaned out and added that this could be permanent.

A reason for this is that there are positions that have players who are redundant in talent. Seeing that most are not performing up to par, the best way to rebuild the Gunners is to rid themselves of excess talent and finances. However, this does not mean that Arsenal will not check the free-agent market for players who could fit in with Arteta’s system.
