Kyrie Irving has drawn a lot of heat as of late for missing some games with the Brooklyn Nets. The reason is believed to be personal and the 28-year-old will reveal all that when the time is right according to head coach Steve Nash.

But it appears that Irving has been quietly behind the scenes and doing his work to help people in need. According to former NBA enforcer Stephen Jackson, the one-time NBA champion is one of several top name personalities helping out the family of George Floyd.

Floyd was killed in 2020 during an arrest after a store clerk claimed that the 46-year-old had passed a counterfeit $20 bill in Minneapolis. His death sparked protests against police brutality and Irving has made a stand on such ever since.

"I said I was going to be my brother's keeper and take care of his daughter and make sure that her next days are her best days," Jackson said on “The Rematch” podcast. "A lot of my friends... Kyrie Irving bought them a house. Lil Wayne's manager bought them a Mercedes-Benz. Barbra Streisand gave them stock in Disney."

Jackson did not go into detail although the initiative of Irving is not that surprising. However, it was not mentioned in this is why the six-time All-Star took personal leave. There are claims that his sudden time-off was because of the recent US Capitol attacks and the verdict passed on the Jacob Blake shooting.

Irving is currently undergoing the requirements to return to action. After violating the NBA health protocols after he was spotted partying without a mask at his sister’s birthday, Irving raised eyebrows. He was fined $50,000 for the incident and will not be paid for the games that he missed.

His absence is huge for Steve Nash who had already spoken to Irving. He reveals that it will be Irving himself who will explain his leave when the time is right.

The aid he gave to the Floyd family is heartwarming and there could be other things he attended to instead of focusing on basketball. But the reality of it all is that “Uncle Drew” needs to fulfill his obligations as a player since he is being paid big money.

The Nets are holding up with Kevin Durant and recruit James Harden. Once Irving is back, Brooklyn should be deadlier although it is no assurance they will win it all this 2020-21 NBA season.
