The Houston Rockets have a lot of problems right now as they try to build a new chapter. They are in the midst of a rebuild with John Wall, Christian Wood and DeMarcus Cousins at the helm. Could Kevin Porter Jr. fit in with that need?

The Cleveland Cavaliers were looking for takers for Kevin Porter Jr. who wore out his welcome following a locker room outburst. Though he has had a rough couple of months, the 20-year-old may have pushed his luck too far when he went off at the Cavs locker room following a win over the New York Knicks recently.

Porter got miffed when he found that his old locker was now being used by Taurean Prince. He was moved to an auxiliary area and this ticked him off. The 30th pick of the 2019 NBA Draft started to yell and throw food at some point.

Cavs general manager Koby Altman and coach J.B. Bickerstaff tried to control the situation but failed. This was seen as the last straw and Cavs players were eventually told that Porter was no longer part of the team. Porter would either be traded or waived.

At first, trading Porter seemed like a long shot. He has yet to play this season after excusing himself due to personal reasons. Also, he had that one-vehicle accident in November. Police found a loaded gun and weed in the glove compartment of his vehicle at the time. The case was eventually dismissed.

Houston is seen to be rebuilding for the future, interested in taking in young players or future picks. Porter has a chance to redeem himself for as long as he can put his emotions and off-court activities in check. According to Sham Charania of The Athletic, both teams are finalizing the deal.

It remains unclear what the Cavaliers would get in exchange for Porter. Reports allege that a future second-round pick would be given to Cleveland although it has yet to be determined if this would be a protected pick.

Regardless, the Cavs have been doing well even with Porter out of the lineup before the incident. They appear to have the right mix led by Andre Drummond and Collin Sexton.

Sadly, the same cannot be said for the reeling Rockets. After losing James Harden and Russell Westbrook, they are in search of a new identity. Wall and Wood could be part of those plans but head coach Stephen Silas needs more help.
