Netflix continues to expand its anime library. Earlier in March, the streaming giant added several titles, including its "cutest and shortest" anime material, Pui Pui Molcar.

Comic Book Resources said that the material has been the talk of the town these past few months. The surge of its popularity emerged after Shin-Ei Animation dropped the stop-motion anime on Kinder TV kids variety program earlier this year.

Following its success, Netflix has packaged 12 "shorts" of the material into four episodes. Each installment runs for eight minutes, making it the shortest anime material on the streaming platform.

The publication continued that Pui Pui Molcar centers its course on five named "molcars," a combination of the words "car" and "molmot," which means guinea pig. Accordingly, the main characters are a hybrid of guinea pig and car.

The series highlights the molcars "doing things cars do," like getting stuck in traffic. In other times, the molcars deal with their animal instincts, as well. These include the need to dispose of waste and have parties with their friends.

Most of the shorts, also, feature several pop culture parodies. The references include materials from Sailor MoonBack to the Future, and Indian Jones.

While Pui Pui Molcar follows the day-to-day lives of molcars, the series has zombies and robot sharks, as well. These things are seemingly what makes the series "appealing." Moreover, it is "lighthearted and extremely cute."

Anime News Network released a report, as well, regarding the Netflix material. It detailed the technical aspect of the stop-motion series.

As revealed, Pui Pui Molcar "marked Tomoko Misato's directorial debut" in the world of animated television shows and series. Apart from directing, he, also, works on the script and storyboards for all the shorts.

He is, also, working with Ikuko Iwatsuki, Makoto Takano, and Katsura Satō for the animation. Meanwhile, Shota Kowatsu focuses on the music compositions.

The publication, later on, pointed out that this is not the first time Shin-Ei Animation dropped a material that easily appealed to the masses. As it happened, they are the same studio that produced Doraemon and Crayon Shin-chan, among other titles.

Pui Pui Molcar dropped on Netflix last week. But, Crunchyroll reported that fans across the globe have long since deemed the material as the "best anime of Winter 2021."

Since its premiere earlier in January, the shorts immediately attracted the public with their cute and funny content. This, then, caused many individuals to give high ratings to the series, allowing it to arrive at the top of Filmarks' rankings for the season.
