The newly unveiled uniforms for the U.S. Space Force have the internet in a stir. Everyone expressed their thoughts on the new outfits, ranging from thinking they look futuristic to comments about how similar they look to bellhop uniforms.

The new outfits for both male and female service members of the sixth branch of the U.S. military were unveiled during a conference Wednesday. Space Force spokesperson, Col. Catie Hague, said at the Air Force Association's Air, Space & Cyber Conference that they first designed the out for women before adopting them for men.

Hague described the outfits as "distinctive, modern, professional, and comfortable to wear." The uniform, which combines gray trousers with a dark blue jacket, has diagonal buttons and white bands across the wrists.

The number six, representing the agency's status as the sixth branch of the military, is prominent in the design. The outfit has six buttons, a six-sided insignia, and a six-sided name tag.

People on the internet have described the uniforms as being futuristic and akin to those worn by officers on popular science fiction television series such as "Battlestar Galactica" and "Star Trek." Users have posted side-by-side photos of the new uniforms and those worn by the fictional officers. There are a lot of similarities, including high collars and their asymmetrical angled row of buttons.

Gen. John Raymond, the agency's chief of space operations, said the uniforms are still in the prototype stage, which means that there may be a few changes before they will be rolled out to service members, or otherwise called Space Force Guardians.

The outfits are the agency's proposed "service dress," which is similar to the military's coat and tie and right below their formal dinner dresses. Internet users commented that the uniforms look too formal and they look like they constrict movement.

Apart from unveiling the new uniform, Raymond also gave updates on the status of the U.S. Space Force. He said the department will be taking over the operations of several Army and Navy communications satellites. He added that they will also be transferring several military and civilian positions from the Army and Navy to the Space Force.
