It's possible that the Nothing Phone will arrive soon. Carl Pei's Nothing company website has a countdown clock that says we'll hear something in Mar. 23.

"Find out what's coming up in 2022," reads the teaser on Nothing's website.

Pei, as you may know, is the co-founder of phone maker OnePlus, who left the business in 2020 to launch his own startup, Nothing. Nothing released its debut product, a set of wireless earbuds named the Nothing Ear (1), last year, with hints that more consumer electronics goods were on the way.

Another clue that Nothing may be releasing a smartphone soon is the presence of a Snapdragon logo on the company's website's countdown clock. While Qualcomm produces Snapdragon chipsets for a wide range of devices, it is often recognized as the mobile processor of choice for Android phones.

Only a few details about the rumored Nothing phone have surfaced, with TechCrunch suggesting that the design would be inspired by the Nothing Ear (1) earphones. With plastic see-through stems and clearly visible touch sensors, those earbuds have a distinct aesthetic, but we're not sure how it translates to phone design.

Given that Pei's former firm, OnePlus, is set to debut the OnePlus 10 Pro in additional territories around the world by the end of March, the timing of Nothing's anticipated launch event is intriguing. That gadget, a camera-focused flagship that hopes to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S22 for the greatest Android phone title, was first released in China in January.

Depending on when (and if) Nothing releases its reported smartphone, it may find itself competing with OnePlus for the fragment of the smartphone market that Samsung and Apple do not already control. That smartphone duopoly makes it difficult for competing phones to make much of a splash, as OnePlus, Motorola, Google, and others struggle to stand out. You'd think that a business like Nothing, which has never released a phone before, would have an even more difficult time attracting attention.

So, if Nothing is working on a phone, the pressure will be on to set it apart from the competition, especially since the Galaxy S22 debut is still fresh in people's thoughts. Between now and the Mar. 23 online event, we hope to learn more about what to expect from Nothing.

During Nothing's Mar. 23 live event, we'll find out exactly what those things are. Dubbed "The Truth," the event promises to lay out Nothing's product roadmap when it gets underway at 2 p.m. GMT.
