Finally, one of the most iconic horror games from long ago is going to have a remake for today's gaming technology.

"Silent Hill 2," a survival horror game released in 2001 for the PlayStation 2, is finally going to be remade for the PS5 and PC. Game publisher Konami announced that it will be teaming up with Bloober Team to create the highly-anticipated remake, the release date for which remains unknown at the moment.

While the Steam page doesn't say much about the actual remake except that it will run "on the latest hardware" and will feature "chilling visuals and visceral sounds," fans who have played the original or at least have watched videos of speedruns or full gameplay on YouTube will know what the game will be about.

Some of the people behind the game, however, expressed their excitement to be working on the remake to the highly-acclaimed psychological horror title that struck fear into the hearts and minds of many gamers during its time, Gematsu reported.

Behind the scenes

Motoi Okamoto, producer of the upcoming game, says they are "proud" to bring "Silent Hill 2" to the PS5 as it is "the best of the Silent Hill series." The classic, which is more than two decades old now, is "brought back to life by a group of horror game experts."

Akira Yamaoka, music composer for the original game, says he is "deeply grateful" to have been a part of the team behind the game which is "loved for such a long time." He said fans should look forward to the remake so they can once again immerse themselves in the town of Silent Hill.

Masahiro Ito, the concept artist behind the original game, says one of the most threatening and scary figures in video gaming history, particularly during that time when visuals where not that good as compared to now, is coming back for more.

"Pyramid Head is coming back," the artist said. "A new journey for those who know the original, and his origin story for those who know that character. And... the most memorable journey of the man most closely associated with that monster."

Even Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno is excited that they are working on the remake to one of the most memorable survival horror games in history.

Babieno explained that the original "Silent Hill 2" was what helped Bloober Team create their collective vision, and now that they are tasked with working on the remake to the original, they are looking forward to deliver an unforgettable experience old and new players alike are sure to love.

"Silent Hill 2 Remake" is under development for the PlayStation 5 and PC. A release date hasn't been announced yet, and fans are urged to stay tuned for more details.
