The iPhone SE is known to be a cheaper but capable option for consumers who don't want to splurge on newer models such as today's iPhone 14 series of handsets. It's a value-for-money handset that doesn't offer much in terms of high-end features, but doesn't cost as much as well.

Now, it appears that Apple is going to release another iPhone SE model that looks very different from the current models. Instead of using the same design language as the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 series handsets, the Cupertino tech giant is going for something more retro: a handset from 2018.

According to sources speaking with noted leaker Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, the upcoming iPhone SE will look like the iPhone XR, which Apple released four years ago.

The sources did not provide any technical information, but according to them, the iPhone SE 4 will have the familiar notch which houses the front camera and more, as well as a single main camera at the back of the handset. There's a 6.1-inch display, which is the same size as the one on the iPhone XR.

Per FPT's renders, which are based on the information the sources gave to Prosser, the said iPhone SE 4 will come in three color variants: Midnight (which is very dark blue to black), Starlight (something between silver and white), and Product RED.

Some might think this look is outdated, but those who liked how Apple's older phones looked like will appreciate the upcoming iPhone SE 4. The Cupertino tech giant is known for reusing older designs for its iPhone SE models-like how the original looked like an iPhone 5, and how the iPhone SE 2 was an updated iPhone 8.

Regardless of how it looks like, consumers can expect the upcoming iPhone SE to run on the latest iOS version, and have varying storage sizes. Its other specs, such as processor, memory allocation, camera, battery size, and more remain unknown at the moment. Prosser's sources didn't hint at anything about the innards, so fans just have to wait for more details once they're available.

Pricing also remains unknown right now, but if Apple decides to maintain the same pricing scheme that it applied for the older iPhone SE models, the upcoming iPhone SE can be expected to cost less than the current flagship phones in the iPhone 14 lineup. It's too early to mention any price range, however.

Apple hasn't said anything about the iPhone SE 4 as of writing. Fans are urged to stay tuned for more information in the future.
