Original "Mean Girls" stars Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried, and Lacey Chabert reportedly won't return to reprise their roles in the new "Mean Girls" movie. Why? Rumors have it that they received a "disrespectful" money offer-only a fraction of what the film creator, Tina Fey, will receive.
It has been reported that Lohan, McAdams, Seyfried, and Charbert initially agreed to return for the new "Mean Girls" movie. However, the talks have reportedly been stalled due to Paramount's poor offer. So, what happened behind the scenes?
The four actresses have remained friends until today, making them willing to work again for the film that brought them closer together. The project in question is the Broadway musical adaptation of the 2004 classic that will stream on Paramount+.
A high-positioned production source told Page Six that Paramount Pictures doesn't want to pay the girls "what they're worth," adding the studio hasn't respected their value. The insider continued that McAdams, who played the queen bee Regina George, received a much larger part to play in the film, but the deal hadn't been signed off, as the negotiations were "stalled."
Fey, who wrote the original film and the musical, is set to reprise her role as the math teacher Ms. Norbury. She allegedly receives a seven-figure deal for her return, considering she also writes and produces the new "Mean Girls" movie, while Lohan and the rest of the girls are only offered a "fraction" of that.
Page Six has contacted Paramount Pictures and the girls' reps for comment. Fey's rep reportedly refused.
Meanwhile, Fey revealed in her appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers that she's not the only OG cast who will return to the new "Mean Girls" movie. Tim Meadows will also be back to reprise his role as Principal Duvall.
"We couldn't age out; teachers work forever," she said. She also dropped more info about the upcoming film, which would start its production in March.
Sex Lives of College Girls' Reneé Rapp will join the movie, along with a pop star who will play the role of Regina George. Angourie Rice, from Mare of Easttown and Senior Year, will be seen as Cady, along with Jaquel Spivey from Strange Loop on Broadway and Auli'l Cravalho, who will play Janis Ian.
Rapp already starred in the Broadway adaptation of "Mean Girls," while Auli'l has proven her voice talent in "Moana." Among the characters of the new "Mean Girls" movie, no one has yet to play the roles of Karen Smith, Gretchen Wieners, and Aaron Samuels, who Seyfried, Chabert, and Jonathan Bennett used to portray.
