Royal author Robert Jobson revealed in his recent book, "Our King: Charles III: The Man and the Monarch Revealed," that King Charles III was captivated by Meghan Markle's intelligence and vibrant personality. Jobson, an experienced royal reporter, also co-wrote the 2002 book "Diana: Closely Guarded Secret" with Princess Diana's Scotland Yard personal protection officer, Inspector Ken Wharfe.

According to Jobson, King Charles III saw similarities between himself and Meghan. The press initially perceived Meghan as a breath of fresh air when she and Prince Harry announced their engagement in November 2017. Jobson quotes King Charles as being fond of Meghan's dedication and interest in the royal institution.

Jobson explained in his book, quoted by Newsweek, that Meghan enthusiastically embraced her new role even before marrying Prince Harry. She visited cities like Edinburgh, Cardiff, Belfast, and London, receiving warm welcomes from large, excited crowds. King Charles III welcomed Meghan with open arms, and she expressed her appreciation for his gentlemanly charm.

In the "Harry & Meghan" Netflix docuseries, Meghan recalled the invaluable support she received from her father-in-law during her wedding. When her father, Thomas Markle Sr., was unable to attend the ceremony, King Charles walked her down the aisle. Meghan stated that having her father-in-law in her life was essential to her.

Jobson noted that King Charles was enthralled by Meghan's intellect and dynamic character. He quoted the King as saying, "She makes Harry happy. We could not like her more." King Charles not only assisted with selecting the choir for the couple's wedding but also took the time to explain the intricacies of life within the royal family to Meghan.

According to Jobson, Meghan's fascination with British and royal history endeared her to King Charles. She studied the Commonwealth more avidly than her husband, who was not particularly interested in such matters. King Charles saw similarities between Meghan and himself in their work ethics, passion for philanthropy, and advocacy for women's issues and organic food.

In a CBS "60 Minutes" interview with Anderson Cooper, Prince Harry confirmed that his father immediately liked Meghan when they first met. However, he said that other family members, including Prince William, were more skeptical, and Meghan faced stereotypes from the beginning.

Prince Harry also expressed disappointment in the lack of support he and Meghan received from the royal family regarding their issues with the British press. He claimed his family was upset when he issued a statement condemning the racial undertones in media coverage, believing it reflected poorly on them.

Although relations with the royal family remain tense for Meghan and Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex will attend King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla's coronation on May 6, while Meghan remains in California.
