Royal commentator Rita Panahi has suggested that Meghan Markle might face accusations of "hypocrisy" if she accepts an invitation to the prestigious Met Gala event in New York on May 1. The Duchess of Sussex's possible attendance at the glamorous gathering, which draws numerous Hollywood celebrities, has sparked much debate.

Panahi, a Sky News Australia host, discussed the potential backlash with fellow host Caroline Di Russo, saying, "This is being called another example of her hypocrisy." Di Russo added, "Hypocrisy is probably the thing that Meghan is best at. This doesn't surprise me or anyone."

The Met Gala, a prominent celebration of fashion overseen by Vogue's Anna Wintour, has seen appearances by A-list stars such as Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Rihanna. Di Russo pointed out the contradiction between Meghan's supposed desire for privacy and her potential appearance at the high-profile event.

The speculation about Meghan and Harry's possible attendance at the Met Gala comes amid claims that their presence could cause "epic drama" and generate numerous headlines. Celebrity PR expert Mayah Riaz dismissed the notion that the couple would not be invited due to surrounding controversies, stating that the Met Gala is known for its drama.

The Met Gala is scheduled for May 1, just five days before the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey in London, which Harry has confirmed he will attend. Meghan, however, will remain in Montecito, California with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Prior to the Coronation announcement, Jordan James, CEO of Unlockd PR, commented on the uncertainty surrounding the couple's potential invitation to the Met Gala. He said, "It certainly wouldn't come as a major surprise if they were snubbed given their current status within the Royal Family and the ensuing drama."

James believes that attending the Met Gala could help improve the couple's public image in the United States. However, he also anticipates that they may prefer to avoid the scrutiny that would likely accompany their appearance at the event, especially since it is so close to the Royal Coronation.

The PR expert also noted that Harry and Meghan's recent absence from several high-profile events may indicate a change in their approach. He concluded, "While the couple isn't always known for laying low, I think we are beginning to see a shift in how they want to be presented - whether this is truly by choice though we may never know."
