As the date of Prince Harry's impending phone-hacking case testimony approaches, the Royal family is apprehensive about what secrets the Duke might unveil. An insider reports that Buckingham Palace is on edge, given Harry's history of holding nothing back in similar legal proceedings.
Prince Harry, previously involved in comparable cases against media titans such as News Group Newspapers and Associated Newspapers Ltd, has accused these outlets of unduly monitoring him and his wife, Meghan Markle. Remarkably, in these testimonies, Harry has not shied away from condemning the royal family for allegedly "withholding information" and forming "secret agreements" with media outlets to guard their public persona.
His forthcoming court appearance in the case against Mirror Group Newspapers has ratcheted up anxiety levels within the royal circle. "They are nervous about what Harry could ultimately reveal, and rightly so. His book was bad enough," divulged an insider, referring to Harry's expose, 'Spare.'
In 'Spare,' Harry levelled accusations at King Charles, 74, and Queen Camilla, 75, stating that they intentionally leaked stories about him and Meghan to the press to secure favorable coverage for themselves.
The source noted, "He could elaborate more on the story, planting claims in court," leaving open the possibility that Harry may insinuate that the whole family was complicit in discrediting him and Meghan to draw attention away from themselves.
Prince Harry's claims in the upcoming trial also point towards his elder brother Prince William's involvement in a similar incident. In a 2020 phone-hacking case against News Group Newspapers, Prince William, 40, was purportedly paid a "very large sum" for a quiet settlement, unbeknownst to the public, implying a quid pro quo arrangement. This allegation has been fervently denied by News Group Newspapers.
The targeted media entities have shot back at Harry's assertions. Associated Newspapers Ltd decried his claims as "preposterous smears."
As Harry is poised to once again stand before a court, the insider said, "Harry is having his day in court, and no one in the royal family is looking forward to it," suggesting that the Royals are on pins and needles about what he might disclose.
