Prince William abruptly skipped a family event due to "personal matters," raising alarm about the health of his ailing wife, Princess Kate. The future king, 41, was scheduled to do a reading from the Bible at the King Constantine Memorial Service at Windsor Castle on Feb. 27, celebrating the life of his godfather, King Constantine of Greece. However, the palace announced last-minute that William would no longer be attending.

Despite a palace representative insisting that Kate "continues to be doing well" following her mid-January abdominal surgery, sources have told In Touch that the palace is engaging in a "shocking cover-up" and hiding the true severity of her condition. "The truth is she's very sick. It's worse than anyone knows," says a source.

Business Times cannot verify this claim of Kate's health independently. The Times has reported that Prince William breaks silence on conspiracy theories, but the Kensington Palace is still under fire for maintaining 'radio silence.'

William, who had taken time off to help Kate during the first three weeks of her recovery but returned to his official duties on Feb. 7, is said to be "really worried" and "willing to drop everything to be by her side." The source reveals that Kate, who normally weighs about 120 pounds at 5-foot-9, "couldn't keep food down and has lost an alarming amount of weight."

The princess's long disappearance from the public eye has sparked rampant speculation, but the source adds that "she won't even record a video message to the public to thank them for their well-wishes because the reaction would be massive shock and concern over her appearance." This is particularly concerning given that Kate, 42, is known for posing "smiling and radiant on the hospital steps hours after giving birth," even though she has struggled with health issues in the past, such as extreme morning sickness during her pregnancies.

"Kate was expected to reappear and resume her public engagements by April, but that's looking extremely unlikely now," says the source. "Even with no further setbacks, it's going to be an additional five-plus weeks of recovery, shy of a miraculous turnaround." For now, Kate will recuperate in private at their country home, Anmer Hall, while her children are on school break.

Britain's Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, arrive for the annual Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in London, Britain March 9, 2020.

The palace is said to be "in crisis right now," with King Charles also out of commission due to his cancer treatment. The situation is so dire that disgraced Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, led the family into St. George's Chapel at Windsor for the memorial. However, William's primary concern is Kate's health, and he has made that clear to his father. "William is terrified of losing her. While William has devoted his life to the monarchy and was raised with a keen sense of duty, none of that matters to him without Kate," says the source.

Kate's illness has been especially traumatic for their children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5. "Of course, they are concerned because she's so frail, but they have no clue about the severity of their mother's condition," says the insider. The children are doing what they can to cheer her up and help out where possible, while William keeps the details vague and promises them that everything will be back to normal soon. However, "managing their fears has been the most heartbreaking part of this ordeal."

The revelation of Princess Kate's worsening health condition and the alleged cover-up by the palace has sent shockwaves through the royal family and the public. As the future queen consort battles to recover from her surgery, the focus remains on her well-being and the impact her illness has on her family, particularly her young children.
