Hugh Jackman's life has been nothing short of a remarkable mystery tour ever since he divorced the previous year. His social media posts have caused his fans to laugh, cry, and even demand a wellness check. His posts have included anything from battling with friends like Ryan Reynolds to comparing his cheese on toast to an emoji.
But friends say that the “Deadpool and Wolverine” star has been focused on rebuilding his life after the heartbreaking end of his 27-year marriage to Deborra-lee Furness, 68, a year ago. Stylecaster reported that, even though he has been linked to various eligible ladies, including Katie Holmes and Sutton Foster, his crazy movie star life has been filled with highs and lows.
"You don't just walk away from that and sail into the sunset," a long-time pal told Woman’s Day Australia. "Hugh's been serious about healing and almost finished with his memoir. He's been working on it forever but only got serious about it when he started journalling for his therapy work."
Hugh, who was 56 years old at the time, disclosed that he had been attending therapy sessions to assist him in coping with the trauma he experienced as a child. Although he was only eight years old then, his mother, Grace McNeil, relocated back to England, where she was born.
"It's been a difficult journey that he's had to deal with silently, like most men do," the pal added. "Writing this memoir has been such a release for him and he's finally ready to unveil the mysteries of his wacky mind to the world. Everyone's convinced he's also working on a documentary or some kind of special as he's been filming a lot, even selfie self-talks."
The previous week, Hugh teased a behind-the-scenes picture on social media as he sat down for an interview, with a boom mike and cameras set up in preparation. This caused social media to go into overdrive.
"Ever since his divorce, he's been fielding offers from all the streaming giants for the first sit-down interview," the insider said. "But the offers got real when the news about his memoir dropped late last year.”
Indeed, Hugh intends to have a formal sit-down interview upon the publication of this book. Naturally, he's anxious; he's always had his family and characters to rely on. Because of his inherent geekiness, he fears that people would view him in a negative light, and he has never really felt like the rugged hero they portray him to be.
Fans continue to guess what "bombshells" Hugh, who also announced a series of performance tours in New York last week, intends to expose, but friends are pleased about the idea. Hugh recently announced a schedule of music tours in New York.
"Honestly we've all been a bit worried about him," the pal continued. "He's been so focused on Deb and the kids, and making sure they're all taken care of in this divorce, that he kind of got lost there.”
In the beginning, he was running on autopilot in this odd kind of submissive mindset; nevertheless, the first big clue that he is prepared to go forward is that he is now willing to give his side of the story.
The insider said a tonne of explaining needs to be done! After a year of working through their differences, he is now more at ease with Deb. The two of them are on the same page regarding their children and making sure that neither is slacking off as a parent. They're both pleased now that they've established a friendly and mutually supporting friendship.
Although Deb is not involved in Hugh's personal life, he will most certainly seek her approval when he begins dating again.
"That's not something she would even have to ask for as it affects the kids, who are doing a lot better a year on. As young adults, they've dealt with the new situation remarkably well. In fact, all four of them are planning a family dinner for Deb's birthday next month."
Hugh's friends say working with his 47-year-old friend Ryan was one of the best partnerships he could have asked for during this time, as per Variety.
Hugh's friend said Ryan helped him laugh his way through the divorce. He was a hero who gave Hugh his home and support system, and he will always have his back—as long as he doesn't force him to wear the Wolverine suit again.
