Judge Aileen Cannon, a Trump appointee, is facing widespread criticism for pressuring the DOJ to disclose details of a January 6 report. Legal analysts accuse her of biased rulings that consistently favor Trump, raising concerns about judicial integrity.
Judge Cannon Faces Backlash Over DOJ Demands
During her appearance on MSNBC "The Weekend," legal analyst and former SDNY prosecutor Kristy Greenberg revealed that Judge Aileen Cannon of the District Court for the Southern District of Florida attempted to offer Donald Trump another chance late Saturday by requesting that the Department of Justice withhold the release of a damaging report by Jack Smith.
While speaking with the MSNBC hosts, Greenberg vented her frustrations with the Trump-appointed judge. The hosts and the prosecutor took turns ripping her, with Michael Steele of MSNBC accusing her of being "in the tank" for the man who gave her a lifetime appointment and the prosecutor calling her an attention seeker.
Cannon's Actions Compared to Reality TV Drama
Her actions were questioned sarcastically by Greenberg, comparing her to a true housewife who got the task, she's doing what she needs to do.
According to the prosecutor, Cannon is attempting to build a plot for this week so that she may generate drama and delay the president's attempt to bury the matter. On the 11th circuit, she hopes it will finally come to a halt.
DOJ Pushes Back on January 6 Report Demands
She demanded that the Department of Justice clarify how the report from January 6th is unrelated to the defendants in question.
In response, the DOJ has stated that it is unrelated to the defendants and has implied that Greenberg lacks jurisdiction, The Raw Story reports.
Critics Highlight Cannon's Favorable Rulings for Trump
In response to a question on Cannon's future, the ex-prosecutor said that, for the time being, there is no end in sight for her because she serves Donald Trump well at Mar-a-Lago.
"We have seen this movie time and time again from her, where every time she goes dramatically outside of the law," she remarked, while expressing her distaste for criticizing judges. Her decisions are completely unjust. By claiming the special counsel was appointed incorrectly, she has gone against 150 years of precedent. I mean, her decisions in this case were completely illegitimate and skewed in favor of Donald Trump, so someone has to finally declare what's really going on: something is amiss.
Concerns Over Judicial Credibility and Experience
Co-host Steele elaborated by saying that Cannon has been under fire since the beginning, which is a shame since she reflects poorly on the entire justice system.
He added that she doesn't seem to understand the rules of procedure or precedent, and it's a shame the public has to deal with this inexperienced judge.
"From that standpoint, I'm of the view I don't care how you release it, just get the damn thing released. because we have we have nickle and dimed around this. [Attorney General] Merrick Garland has been wholly useless in this process."
