The Huawei Mate 20 Pro could be coming out with a new biometric technology, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner according to a Chinese publication. Huawei and Qualcomm are collaborating to introduce the second-generation ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, a possible first.

This bit of news popped after the Huawei Mate 20 would reportedly come with a conventional fingerprint scanner. This is the same technology used on the Huawei Mate RS Porshe Design, the first handset from the Chinese phone manufacturer offering in-display fingerprint technology supplied by Goodix.

With the Huawei Mate 20 Pro a notch above the Mate 20, adding the new biometric feature will offer potential buyers an accurate and reliable interface. With glass displays reportedly around 800 microns thick, wet or greasy fingers can instantly unlock a device, Gizmo China said. Traditional capacitive fingerprint scanners only work under 200-300 microns and most find difficulty especially if their fingers are not dry.

Further, the said technology will reportedly be an exclusive one between Huawei and Qualcomm until February 2019. This means that other companies who may have plans to adopt the same technology will have to wait for the scanning solution by the remaining first half of 2019.

Also, it seems that the Huawei flagship will offer more than the ultrasonic fingerprint scanner technology. Despite earlier reports that the company has shelved plans of employing 3D face scanning, it turns out that Huawei will be arriving with support for 3D face unlock after all. The bad news is that integrating it will make the device more expensive.

Other than the biometric security features for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, various leaks have come out on what the features to expect. According to XDA Developers, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro will come with practically the same features as the Mate 20.

This includes a 6.3-inch AMOLED panel notch-less display powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 980 chipset. This will be the first SoC manufactured on a 7nm process that can also reach a maximum of 2.8 GHz clock speeds.

Providing further support for the phone’s chipset will be 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. It will also come with a massive 4,200 mAh battery, a pop-up selfie camera, a triple camera setup and support for wireless charging. More features are expected to come out moving forward.

As far as the software that comes with it, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro will reportedly come out with Android P based on EMUI 9.0 out of the box. The retail price of the said device is pegged at $730.
