The Xiaomi Mi 8 came out several months ago with a $393 price tag, a reasonable price for an Android phone running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Now and as far as the 6 GB RAM and 64 GB storage is concerned, the company has slashed the price to only $378 – making it one of the cheapest Android devices running on a Snapdragon 845 processor available in the market.

The reason behind the price slash remains unknown although it does become a problem for rival brands. One, in particular, is the Meizu 16 which retails for roughly $392. Adding to the woes of Meizu is the fact that they seem to be out of stock, making the Xiaomi Mi 8 a viable alternative for smartphone seekers.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 6 GB RAM and 64 GB ROM is readily available via the company’s official store. There are three color options available. Aside from that, Xiaomi is also offering a package for the 256 GB ROM variant, bundling it with a Mi Band 2 fitness tracker. The deal makes it a curious alternative for buyers who are looking for freebie deals.

Technically, customers looking to get a new Android-powered device have two options from Xiaomi. To refresh, the Xiaomi Mi 8 sports a 6.21-inch full HD+ display featuring an IR face scanner and comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC together with an Andreno 630 GPU. Among the highlights of the device include a dual camera (12 MP + 12 MP) at the back and a front-facing 20 MP selfie shooter, Gizmo China said.

Other notable features for the Xiaomi Mi 8 include the regular rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, a non-removable Li-Po 3,400 mAh battery and armed with an Android-based MIUI 10 out of the box. Aside from the discounted 6 GB + 64 GB ROM model, the Xiaomi Mi 8 is also available in 4 GB and 8 GB RAM and 128/ 256 GB ROM options. The device is available in black, blue, white and gold color schemes, GSM Arena said.

Aside from taking aim at its competitors, a potential reason behind the price cut could be the demand for the variant. As mentioned in a previous post, most were concerned about the limited 64 GB storage. Depending on use, the ROM may not be enough to hold apps, photos, and videos. The phone does not come with an expandable card slot, meaning users only have internal storage to rely on. Hence, most buyers are likely to opt for the 128 or 256 GB storage variants even if they cost a bit more for needed space.
