Beijing turned down an American Warships request to visit Hong Kong next month. China canceled United States assault ship, the Wasp, carrying marine soldiers following the country's decision to recall Shen Jinlong, a Chinese military naval commander who was in the United States attending a naval conference.
China also postponed a joint staff communications meeting between the two nations scheduled September.
China's cancellations of the events were initiated by a decision of the Trump administration that imposes sanctions on a China-owned military company associated with the People's Liberation Army for purchasing Russian Weapons.
In response to the U.S. sanctions, China and Russia both condemned and warned the United States of the consequences unless the sanctions are canceled.
The impact of the American sanctions on the Chinese economy remains unclear however some thinks that China's response shows that the sanctions prove the significant effect.
Geng Shuang, a Chinese Foreign minister told reporters that China will react in accordance with the principle of sovereignty and the detailed situation in handling the U.S. military ships request.
Geng told reporters that the Chinese side expresses strong indignation over the sanctions of the United States. He added that the U.S. actions have violated the basic principles of international relations and the country's actions seriously damaged the relations between the two countries and their military.
He added that China strongly appeals to the U.S. government that they need to immediately correct their mistake and they need to withdraw their so-called sanctions or else they will bear the consequence.
The U.S. State Department announced on Thursday that they are placing sanctions on the Equipment Development Department of the Chinese Ministry of Defence because they purchased Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 surface-to-air missiles.
It was reported this is the first recorded third country that has been punished under the CAATSA sanctions legislation after doing a deal with Russia which signaled the U.S. administration's motivation to assess risk relations with other countries as its campaign against Russia.
China was reported to have requested the attention of the U.S. ambassador to Beijing to initiate an official protest over the implemented sanctions and the postponed joint military talks.
China and U.S. slapped each other with additional tariffs on Monday wherein the United States implemented $200 billion in Chinese exports and the Chinese government countered with $60 billion worth of tariffs of American products.
It was reported that the two sides have been imposing tariffs of about $50 billion in goods from each other.
