The Los Angeles Rams overcame the Green Bay Packers, 29-27, to keep their perfect season alive. Plenty of credit goes to Jared Goff who stood his ground in his duel with Aaron Rodgers.
Goff finished with 19-of-35 for 295 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions, besting Rodgers who had 18-of-30 passing for 28 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. But the game was more about the battle of the two quarterbacks with the Rams who had 114 rushing yards, 81 receiving yards and a touchdown courtesy of Todd Gurley, Bleacher Report said.
Rodgers did have the chance to hand Packers a win but his drive with less than two minutes was foiled when Ty Montgomery fumbled on the kickoff return. It was Ramik Wilson who forced and recovered the fumble, eventually running out the clock, the Baltimore Sun said.
“This team has demonstrated through eight games, while we have a long way to go, there’s a variety of ways that we can win,” coach Sean McVay said.
After fending off the Packers, the Rams now find themselves as the only unbeaten team midway of the NFL season. With two MVP contenders in the fray, Los Angeles will stake their record next week once more against the future Hall of Famer Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints.
There is, however, the state of Goff who got a lot of hits against the Packers. He was sacked five times for the second time in three weeks. The 24-year-old visited the team’s X-ray room although it seems that he remains good to go.
Coach McVay is expecting Goff to feel the effects of those sacks tomorrow but believes that this will not be enough to force his quarterback out of action.
As for Gurley, he remains an extraordinary offensive weapon for the Rams. The Packers did do a good job to thwart 24-year-old running back’s attempts, making life hard for him to score particularly in the first half.
A resilient Gurley proved too much to handle for the Packers with Gurley setting up a second-quarter touchdown with a bobbling 32-yard catch on the sideline and another on a 30-yard touchdown catch that would eventually hand the Rams the lead in the third quarter.
For the Packers, the struggles continue and their next opponent is no pushover. They face the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots in Week 9, a team that they need to figure out as well. Unless they get their act together, they stand to miss the playoffs unless they are able to improve their defensive plays - a notable struggle they have had al season.
